The Central Soil and Materials Research Station (CSMRS), New Delhi an attached office of the Department of Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation, Ministry of Jal Shakti was established in 1954. With the prime goal of serving the nation, CSMRS has been working for the water resources sector of the country since then. CSMRS’ contribution in the geotechnical investigations, construction material characterization, and quality control monitoring of India’s most prestigious hydropower projects, irrigation and water resources structures are the live examples of our success stories. CSMRS is an ISO 9001:2015 certified organization which deals with field and laboratory investigations, basic and applied research and problems in geotechnical engineering, concrete technology, construction materials and associated environmental issues, having direct bearing on the development of irrigation and power in the country and functions as an adviser and consultant in the above fields to various projects and organizations in India and abroad.
CSMRS earned the reputation as Centre of Excellence in the field of Geotechnical Investigations for the River Valley Projects and carried out numerous geotechnical investigations for Central/State Government owned major, medium and small irrigation, flood control and Multipurpose/Hydroelectric projects. We have developed expertise and facilities for providing one-stop solution to Central/State Government owned projects in assessing the competency of difficult geologic foundations and the remediation of problematic materials for project construction. We are also providing consultancy to ailing projects for issues such as Dam Safety, Use of Geosynthetics for anti-erosion works, Forensic Investigation and Rehabilitation etc. We are involved in the techno-economic appraisal of Irrigation, Flood control & multipurpose projects proposed by the State Governments with particular reference to Geotechnical Investigations and Construction Material Characterization.
Though water is our prime sector, our clients’ list extends to various other organizations from diverse sectors as well including nuclear and thermal power, roads and bridges, railways, mining and building. In addition to the works of the Central and State Governments, and Public Sector Undertakings, several consultancy works of Private Sector are also undertaken.
